Why do people fail to understand that Obama will not make military life better?
I have actually talked to other military wives who will vote for Obama b/c "There will be less/no deployments." Do they not understand that their husbands won't be deployed b/c the military will be cut and they will no longer have a job? Do they not understand that the already pitiful pay that our active duty members earn will not improve or could even be cut? I guess they are wishing for 4 years of food stamps. Thoughts from other military members/military spouses would be much appreciated.
Additional Details
I am not talking about the war. I am talking about the fact that when the military is cut, members are forcibly separated and lose their jobs. Yes, my husband will still get paid, but why don't you talk to someone who served in the military during Clinton's administration as to how well the liberals want to pay the men and women who fight for our country.
Yes, our John McCain will put them to WORK fighting in Iran!

Ok pay taxes for unnecessary wars like Iraq. ($500 billions), Please dont tell me to pay any thing for your wars. And don't leave any bill for future generations.
Because once they get into office they are like any other president not fully able to keep there promises it is completely normal for a president to do that they have one of the most difficult jobs.

I cannot speak for them, but I understand you. I think it's horrible that he wants to cut military costs and benefits.

You have already had 8 years of food stamps; cuts to VA benefits; deterioration of medical care. Why would you want 4 more year of that from McCain? McCain voted against GI Bill increases how can that be a good thing for you and your husband? Obama is trying to increase the pay for the military while the Republicans vote against it.
We already can apply for foodstamps we barely survive above water. Obama will make A LOT of people get out. Democrats believe that the military makes too much money! I dunno about you but my hubby has been gone for six months and we still could be on welfare! Not only that but they aren't just flipping burgers. What do people think that the military goes and fights and dies for. Apparently they deserve nothing for that. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

and i guess you have no freking heart cause most people prefer to be poor and have food stamps but be with their family all together

Evidently your the one that does not understand.Obama voted to raise pay for soldiers,McSame voted no.Obama supported a bill that would give soldiers one year in the state for each year in Iraq,McSame voted against it.Obama voted for the new GI bill that will pay for college for veterans ,McSame was against it and failed to show for the vote.
Guess the soldiers in Iraq know that because the majority support Obama.
Well, that much is true, when democrats are in office, our funding is always in jeopardy in the military, including pay raises, other benefits including cutbacks in the size of the military. I will vote republican because i love serving in the Army and would like to keep my pay and benefits. I don't like war, no one in the military does, however, we understand what we are signing up for, so please, all of you who are protesting and what not for us in the military, please don't, make this country great, as it should be, and go to work and contribute to our economy.
ditto that. Bringing the troops home maybe, but cutting the military.... thats not a great idea. The airforce for example has already been cut a bunch. which doesnt make sense to me because they just hire civilians to fill in what ever were missing and they pay them tons more money. Seems like making the military bigger and getting rid of the civilians would save us money. I think obama is just trying to please the crowd. We just need to regroup and reassess.
If you really are a military wife, tell me anything good the Republicans have done for you over the past eight years. Specifics please. How have they made your life better. I'd really like to know.
What bills are you basing your views on??? Or, are you basing your views on a bipartisan propaganda medium???? I'm an army SGT, and knew who Obama was before he ran for president due to the fact that he fought for wounded Soldiers repaying their meal debts during long stays in inpatient facilities.
Historically, republicans have been more supportive of sustaining the military. From what I've read and seen Obama will cut the size of our military and that could mean that folks currently serving, won't be in the future.
The frequency of our deployments will decrease but will the length increase? I'm by no means a Bush lackey but I do believe that we have a good reason for being in the middle east.
Right ,the polls show that the public is discouraged with the way the war in Iraq/Afghanistan is going. It is a hot button that both parties will key on for the elections.
My opinion is democrats would rather re-act than be prepared if something else goes down
Bull, why would they lose their jobs. Most of the money we spend on the war isn't the soilders pay. It is fuel, weapons, and the private companies we pay to do the same stuff the military is doing only they cost 3 times more. So they are not going to cut the soldiers or their pay because it is a small fraction of what the total cost of the war is.
I am a 8 year Army war veteran at the age of 25, I have been discharged due to injuries. Currently my husband is deployed right back over to same place that I visit in my nightmares regularly as our 1 year old daughter sleeps in the room beside me with no idea what her daddy's hugs and kisses feel like...This is no longer a matter of money, the price that is being paid by our military families is larger than any pay check the Army could ever offer us. I am not saying that Obama or McCain have a solution, I don't think there is one because the hatred that prevails in a country torn apart by war is deeper than any answer we could ever give...However, the needless bloodshed of american soldiers needs to end and our troops need to come home...at any cost.

I assume you think that Obama will be the same as Bill Clinton as far as the military gos. You can ask anyone who served in the 90's and that is still in, benefits have decreased every year since Bush took over, furthermore VA benefits have been on the decline as well. The VA's have had there budgets slashed dramatically since 02. Don't believe me, find a vet who gets his or her health care from the VA. Plus, your boy McCain did not show up to vote on the new GI bill. To busy on the campaign trail. Plus, he was very outspoken about it. Ex Air Force here, Brother, ex- Navy, Somalia, 100% disabled vet. Little brother, active duty, Iraq. Yea, I am up to date on this ****.

First of all, make no mistake; I'm not voting here nor will I. I'm trying to remain publicly neutral. That said, from my experience as a retired Ranger 1SG, if one is active duty, Republican Commanders-in-Chiefs are more monetarily generous. Conversely, at times it can suck to be a civilian. Democratic presidents seem to slow down the pay (and numbers) of the active force. However, they are much more generous (monetarily) to Vets, the Vet Organizations, and their families. Same old platforms: Republicans=strong defense, while Democrats want to scale that down for more domestic, social programs. The old Hawk vs. Dove mentality. I served under both and believe I'm giving a pretty accurate, fair representation of both.
Switching gears here, I wonder how many ladies who commented here are aware of not just the obvious (i.e. food stamps), but the WIC program (state-funded), MWR food closets, talk to their Chaplain and/or 1SG, and on the civilian front-occupational rehab? Do you also know you may go to your local fort/base learning center and take a free CLEP test by merely presenting your military ID? Rack up some free, accredited college courses free of charge if possible (and it is!) to work towards a degree. Study guides are available at the learning centers with numerous practice exams. Nothing like getting a free 6 college credits (depending on how well you do, maybe you'll only get 4) Worse case scenerio, if you totally flame in-your punishment is you can take it over again in 6 months with the same chance of acing it for max credits. Btw, on the outside, depending on the college, they're $75-$150 each. Longest one I ever took lasted about 2 hours. Take advantage of these programs, ladies, that's why they are there!!! Hang tough-I often thought your jobs were tougher than ours. Take it all in and distract yourself if only for a little while, as you're being both productive and having fun. I am proud of you all and you need to be not only recoznized but commended as well.
Quit making up nonsense. Obama will stop getting American soldiers killed.
