Why are you atheists even here?

  • Why are you atheists even here? You say you don't believe in God, then why are you in the religion/spirituality section? First of all, atheist is not a religion because in order for it to be a religion it has to be about faith. You don't have faith that there is a god therefore it can't be a religion. And second of all, it has nothing to do with spirituality either because God is a spirit and you don't believe in God so you can't possibly believe in spirituality and if you do you are just contradicting yourself. So, why are you here?

  • Because of a deep need to understand how is it possible for educated people to believe in some mumbo jumbo put down as wisdom by some shepherds way back when humanity believed that everything was caused by one god or another. Gods come and go according to the moods of their creator(us). But knowledge stays. It is hard for us to accept anything on faith. we need proof. we are the doubting Thomases. What makes you believe in some megalomaniac god who needs your love or you fry for eternity. A god who visits on his creations the most appalling disasters simply because we do not show him enough respect. He is supposedly omniscient so he should know exactly what he has created without needing confirmation of our devotion to him. You can keep this psychotic god. Enjoy

  • This is not the "only if you believe in god" section. I have read the bible and studied religion. I probably know more about your religion than you do. Why shouldn't I be here?

  • With all due respect, there is an awful lot more to religion and spirituality. God represents the infinite unity and order of creation, Yet the world we live in is still strongly divided over the translations of the realisation of the heavens.

Some people are just curious in the diversitys of culture.

But some just want to undermine the concepts of unity via God

  • Atheists have faith that there is no God- so they must be a religion?? Or at least have an opinion about spirituality?? They obviously want to express their opinion regaurding their beliefs, just as you.

  • Before I begin, I would like to let you know I am a Catholic. Now, you can be spiritual and not religous, spirituality and religon, though complementary to eachother, are not the same thing. Second, the internet is not a church, people are free to roam as they please and answer questions on any topic they like. Just because someone may be an athiest, does not mean they cannot view the religion/spirituality section. Maybe they are just trying to get a rise out of you, in which case it is apperant they are doing a great job.

  • They sense God...not they are about to tell you a bunch of BS...they are on every Christian chat board..SCREAMING they are victims..LOL!

They are here because their God satan sent them

  • You misunderstand spirituality... that has nothing to do with the supernatural or spirits. It has to do with self-realization.

Rational people... such as atheists... care very deeply about people who go around poisoning young minds by declaring in a publix forum that supernatural Bronze Age myths, superstitions, delusions and fairy tails represent some kind of cosmic 'truth'. So, it is our duty, as rational human beings, to oppose such organized insanity at every opportunity... for the sake of our future... including YOUR future.

  • If we're going to discuss religion and spirituality, even if it's with opposing views, the place to do so is the "Religion and Spirituality" section. Atheist have opinions about religion as well.

If we're going to pick on theists, the "Religion and Spirituality" section is the place to do so.

If we want to learn something new about religion and spirituality, the "Religion and Spirituality" section is the place to do it.

Just to make it clear, the religion and spirituality section is to ask and answer religion and spirituality questions, the name of the section indicates the "topic" of the questions and not the "label" of the people who participate here.

  • They want to pick on religious people because they claim that there isn't a God.

  • Just to piss off you christians

  • Take it as an opportunity for evangelization, for bringing Christ to those who don't know Him and don't believe in Him.

We are not here just to dialogue with people who believe in God as we do. We are also here to dialogue with those who don't believe in Him.

Christ wants us to bring the Good News to those who do not yet know it. This is one way to do it -- to reach out to the atheists who come onto this forum.

  • I'm not an Atheist, I believe in god, but I am not a Christian and do not believe the bible god is the true god. So I guess you don't think I should be hear either since I don't share your beliefs?

  • I wouldn't call myself an atheist but I don't have to beleive in YOUR god to be spiritual.

If your going to spend your time chasing rainbows then so be it - don't slate those who choose not to.

  • Because they care.

  • I'm not an atheist, but my answer is that their 'beliefs' revolve around the disapproval of god. So they are here to make sure they disprove or challenge as many believers as possible. I think perhaps they are scared of finding truth, or what MAY BE, or their lives suck...

  • - Atheists don't believe in god or gods, that doesn't mean they don't belong to a religion or aren't religious.

    - This is both the religion AND spirituality section. Some people come here to learn about spirituality, but, end up answering questions about religion also.

    - Everyone, no matter what their beliefs (or lack of beliefs) are, want their view to be heard.

    - Many atheists think religion is dangerous so they are going to let people know that.

    - Many atheists think religion is doing the world a big disfavor and they are going to do what they can to change that.

    - You don't have to believe in god(s) in order to discuss god(s), the Bible, or other "holy" books.

    - There are questions directed towards atheists in this category.

There are many reasons why atheists, agnostics, and other non-believers ask and answer questions in this category. What about believers in god though, why are you here? If you really believed in god, then why wouldn't you ask it directly? It seems to me that you either don't actually believe in god, or, you're severely disrespecting it.

  • You don't believe in MY God and Goddess, in my eyes that makes YOU an atheist. So tell us all, we're dying to hear, what ARE YOU doing here ?

  • I am here for fun. I like messing with Christians because they mess with me. Christians try to convert people, well so do I. I try to stop people from wasting their Sundays/lives. Mostly for fun.

  • I thought this was the religion and spirituality section, not the "if it's not about Jesus it's not religion OR spirituality" section. Interest in spirituality, and correcting the misconceptions people seem to have about non-believers.

  • so youre implying that us atheists are not allwed to be in the religion and spirituality section? who made you the god of yahoo answers? we are here because tyhis is a public forum.

if you wish to be i na place where only christins are allowed then i reccomend going to a christian message board. there they ban anyone who has a dissenting view or opinion.

we are here because we choose to be. dont like it? leave.

  • If only atheist were smart enough to understand that there is more to life than what they can see. Have you ever seen a blind atheist. HA HA

  • It's a subject we can all comment on and ask questions about...think it through...I know it's a bit difficult for some people to do that..think I mean.

We wouldn't be called atheists if it wasn't for theists who call us this so you see we do have some claim to be here to defend ourselves don't you think...or don't you think!

  • Atheists come here to challenge your faith. To make you doubt your beliefs. They go to all these web sites that distort the truth of the Bible, and take things out of context and then point them out to us and "inconsistencies"

Satan has no other purpose that to try to cast doubts in our minds so we will abandon our Lord. Because Satan has no hope, he doesn't want anyone else to either.

  • Atheist dominate this section because they can hide behind a screen name. They would never go out in the real world and talk the crap they do here, because they more than likely would get gunned down by some extremist. They are weak, lost souls who hide behind, live for and make love to their computers.

  • I hate this question. This is an open forum to discuss the topic of religion and spirituality.

  • Duck!

  • 1. This question is posted many, many, many times every day.

    2. I realize that no one reads this when I just link to it, so here is my response to a previous version of this question:

I believe that I have been nothing but courteous to the people of faith here. I openly deny their belief-system. They openly deny mine. That's fine. We have, however, engaged in some very respectful debate, much to the benefit (I hope) of both sides. I know that my beliefs have not changed, but my preconceptions about young-Earth Christians have been shattered by some of the people I have found here. I think that they are wrong, but I am thrilled to have the opportunity to debate with them without resorting to name-calling or rudeness.

Granted, this requires an openness on both our parts. I think that their faith is "wrong." They think that my lack of faith is "wrong." This is where most people get hung up and debate can go no further. If someone disagreeing with you is "offensive," you're stuck. Once you accept this disagreement, you are quite free to exchange ideas. This is what I have found here (for the most part.)

As for why I spend so much time in the religion and spirituality forum, I see faith as playing a huge role in the lives of everyone in the world, be they moderate Muslims, fundamentalist Christians, Pagans, or Atheists like myself.

In my supposedly free country I see gays discriminated against due to faith. People who would never think of using the N-word openly hate and criticize homosexuals for what they are, not who they are.

I see medical advances that could help millions of people stymied by arguments that have their basis in faith. Stem cell research could potentially ease the suffering of billions around the globe, but people of faith stand in the way.

We are currently involved in what may or may not be a holy war. This is an issue of faith.

Our current government supports "faith-based initiatives" in what may be a breach of The Constitution itself.

I know that faith helps people sleep at night. This doesn't undo the tremendous amount of suffering it has inflicted at every turn of history.

I see faith as a problem, and would like to encourage people to put aside their myths and embrace reason. However, I realize that this is futile. As Jonathan Swift said, "It is useless to attempt to reason a man out of a thing he was never reasoned into."

That said, I think that Yahoo Answers provides a wonderful opportunity to try to see where other people are coming from. I disagree with the Christians (and Muslims and Pagans...), but I think it is very important for me to try to understand them. I would hope that they will try to understand me. Once we find some common ground and some mutual respect, we can truly start to talk about things.

I hate the name-calling. The largest problem I have with religion is that it is divisive. I feel that this is the most important aspect of faith that needs to be removed from the equation. Name-calling is also divisive and does not fit into my attempts to act reasonably.

I feel that I deny, but do not scoff. I embrace and enjoy open debate. I think that the things discussed here are important. I'd like to think that some of the things I have to say are pertinent.

If you want a place for only Christians (for example) to exchange ideas, there are plenty of places on the web for that. However, I think that this exclusion of other mindsets and worldviews does a disservice to those who would seek such a closed system.

That's why, as an atheist, I show up on the religion thread.

  • First, I want you to tell buddhists that they can't be spiritual. When you're done with that, I want you to realise that the word there is "religion" not "religious". I have an opinion on religion, and so I'm here to share it. Any more problems I can help you with?
