What to send a recruit during boot camp to make them feel better?

  • Hey guys my boyfriend just left for marine boot camp, he broke up with me but we are gonna start talking again when he finishes boot camp, i want to send him letters and stuff during his boot camp to keep him feeling happy but i dont really know what i should send him. I ask tat if anyone has been through marine boot camp and has any advice on what could have made their stay there better, please let me know what you would have liked, sports news? news?

  • Just letters. If you send the stuff Lil Dog suggests it will all be confiscated. He will get it eventually, but not until he graduates at which point he already has enough stuff to drag to the airport, now he's saddled with all these packages as well.

  • Letters. Nothing more. Don't send anything other than ink and paper, unless you want him to be punished for it. Everything he needs will be provided.

  • It doesn't matter what is in the letter. Just hearing from people back home is plenty enough. Write him about what's happening to you, and to mutual friends the two of you have.

  • Send him a picture with your new boyfriend. Let him know all the details!

  • Tell him about sports (if he likes sports,) the weather back home, what you did at work or school, your plans for the weekend, what you plan to do when he gets home on leave... Just write about all the things you would talk to him about if he was standing right there in front of you, But try to keep things upbeat of course. And most importantly, tell him how proud you are of him and be as encouraging as possible!!

  • Letters, and lots of them. Magazine pages/clippings that would interest him (cars, hunting, sports). Sports scores. I know of a girl who sent her Marine one of those Final 4 brackets. She sent him a new one every time games were played. Pictures. But really, letters about what is going on at home, what you're doing, what you want to do with him when he's out, will help him a lot. Good luck :)

  • He is very limited on what he is allowed to have during boot camp. So care packages are generally out.

Send him heartfelt letters, cards, and pictures (small). You can send him newspaper clippings from home of something he is interested in. You can send him a phone card so he can call home when he gets permission.

Just knowing that someone misses him and cares about him means a lot.

  • Magazines, local newspapers, books, music, homemade cookies, candy bars.
