My car seems to shift hard between 2 and 3. Its an automatic with a new transmission but it creates a jolt when the gears change. I was told I needed to change my transmission fluid by a mechanic but I'm not sure which one I should use. I could look in my car manual and just use whatever it suggests but I was wondering if anyone new of any better alternatives? always use the honda/acura ATF. It's a grey/blue bottle and you should get about 4 or 5 quarts. if you use non-factory fluid, you will experience problems like you just described.1st off you said its a new transmission..or was it rebuilt. if you got a compleatly new transmission somtime if you got it from a dealer or more likely a junkyard they will give you a transmission out of a newer or older car that have the same transmission. thats ok the only problem is if its out of a different car than the exact one you have it is used to shiffting from different rpms an will cause a hard shift. iv never heard of fluid causing this but i would recomend dextron III (3) if you want to try changing. but if its new it probly has the right fluid in it.
