Startup Problem With XBMC

  • Having just bought some Homeplug, so I can connect to my Xbox from upstairs, and had it working perfectly I have just stopped the XBOX from booting.

I decided that'd I'd like my XBox to boot up to the XBMC dashboard.

I followed the Option 1 instructions here http://www.xboxmediacenter.com/wiki/index.php?title=As_a_Dashboard

My Xbox now shows the Xbox screen with executer underneath and just stalls!

Please help very annoyed with myself... Is there anything I can do?

  • I encountered this some time ago.

As best as i can remember it turned out that i'd put a carriage return in the cfg file at the end of my path and this was causing it to hang, at least it worked for me and the only thing i changed was to remove the return (or was it a space.... hmmm)

    Hope that will help.

    Shorty

  • The absolute first thing to do when anything goes wrong is to check your logs.

Then post EXACTLY what you did, and EXACTLY what your xbox boot sequence is and someone will be able to help.

  • You sure you did it right.

I just did that on my xbox (option 1, use as dashboard) and it works just fine.

    Just install it to E:AppsXBMC

And place the default.xbe (the one you downloaded from the wiki) to the C: drive. And along with that, place a *.cfg file with "E:AppsXBMCdefault.xbe" (without quotes) inside the .cfg file.

Now, what your gonna want to do is rename the default.xbe you downloaded (and put on C: drive) and the *.cfg file to the same thing. So say something like "xbmc.xbe" and "xbmc.cfg", both on the C: drive (the .xbe you downloaded from the wiki, not the one from the xbmc build).

As long as the path points to the real default.xbe you should be fine. You just have to rename the xbe into something that your bios can read (like evoxdash.xbe or whatever it may be, just make a backup of the old one).

On the X3 you can select the priority boot order and xbmc.xbe just happens to be one there. So if you have one of those you can do that. Otherwise just rename the xbe to what your xbox is already booting up on and you should be fine.

(it's pretty simple when you think about it).

  • how did you set it up the first time, cause i can't get it to work..help..
