Should Celebrities be used To Promote Products?
Whereas if Joe Newbie promotes the selfsame cookies, you will want to change the channel and watch something else
Yes, because celebrities are well-known, or more known, so their names and faces and images get more attention for the company or product.
No, because they don't represent reality.
Corporations use celebrities to increase our dissatisfaction and discontent with our own lives. They want us to think..."Hmmm...if I use this product maybe I can be as cool as the celebrity who endorses it..." (even though they aren't real people and can't live up to the high place where they [only] appear to live)
The people who run the corporations also want us to focus on celebrities because it takes our attention off of them and all the underhanded things they do to us - like putting addictive chemicals in our food and selling us garbage that's not worth a fraction of the high prices they charge. I'd love to see some more investigative journalism on corporate abuses...and A LOT less celebrity gossip "news."
