Rule Question

  • At my daughter's game last week, the other team was awarded a free kick in their half of the field. The kicker fell down while attempting the kick and the ball only moved a foot or two.

I'm assuming she could not touch the ball again until it had hit another player. True? She was pretty much in shock and our team took possession, so there's no controversy over what happened. I'm just considering the "what if".

  • Good morning, Nancy. You are correct. In taking a free kick, if the same player plays it twice, then it's an Indirect Free Kick for the opposing team from the spot of the second kick.

The big guys (and gals) frequently do short free kicks, but generally have team mates in the vicinity when they do so. :)
