what would you call that accent? I'm the only one in my family born in the south and I've been told that I talk with a weird accent. I caught this random youtube video on accents and I was just curious.well some of my family is from CT and we live in SC and we are told to have southern accents. But then again my family says Im the only one that has an accent. so Im not sure.Possibly Southern. However, it might be a combination of New England as well. I was born and raised in CA, my Father was from the MidWest, he is the one who taught me to talk and I am told I don't sound like I am from California....When I was in High School and took Spanish, they teased me because I spoke Spanish with a Midwestern accent. I can't hear it, but others can.LOL, I understand completely. I live in Tennessee, but I grew up in Appalachian mountains in Virginia right on the Kentucky & West Virginia borders so I have a very thick southern/hillbilly accent, my ex-husband is from Detroit. So our kids have strange accents. Some things sound like a northerner and some things sound like a southerner.I don't know that you would call it anything. Accents are not genetic. They are influenced by your environment. Growing up in a family that has a strong New England accent and living in SC where they have a strong southern accent can create an interesting sound combination coming from you if you are influenced by both. To your New England family, you may sound southern because you have some southern influences, but to your southern friends you may sound northern because you have some northern influences. But the reality is you are a little of both. But I don't know that there is any particular name for it.#If you have any other info about this subject , Please add it free.# |
