Is there anything I can do for my Rally2 (2gig) to return it to its original blazing speed? It ran great for about 5 months, then just dropped waaaay off. I tried to reformat it to FAT32 with no result. I don't suffer from any data loss, its just so slow now I can't run apps off of it any longer (example:Firefox Portable)Is it slow in copying files on and off or just when you try to run programs off of it?Well, they are USB'ish programs, so I never really installed them in the first place. Just sort of copied them over. I have tried erasing the drive a couple times and putting everything back on, which did not net me any results.I guess maybe I just used it up or something. Ah well, it was a good fast ride for those first 6 months.I have not noticed much of a speed change writing files to it. To be honest, I don't change the files on it very often. Its mostly just full of MP3s and has a copy of firefox on it. I usually keep about 200 meg free on it.
So Its just when loading Winamp or Firefox that I noticed a huge slowdown. Is the drive slow on more than one computer? If you run a program like HDtach on it what kind of speeds do you get?The drive shouldn't be any slower now or 5 years down the line. I'll talk to someone at the office to see if anyone else has seen this problem.Have you tried loading those programs freshly onto the drive? It does suffer on all machines. I will try that program and let you know.
Thanks for responding so quickly.I ran the tach test, and it looks like it is working like its supposed to. The program reports 22MB/s which I think is right in line with what the drive claims. Maybe I should try something else.#If you have any other info about this subject , Please add it free.# |
