Mpeg2\Transport Stream .... .TS Files

  • i have sime hdtv rips i am trying to watch. they are in .ts format. videolan plays these files with no problem, so i think its safe to assume that they are not corrupt. in xbmc, when i try to play them, xbmc buffers them (i see the buffering screen & progress) which only takes a second or two to start streaming off my server. i hear a split second of audio and no video and then it just returns to the directory listing. everything else plays fine.

i am using a january 2006 build of xbmc (i forget the exact date, but it was the lsat january build)

does xbmc support this format? i thought it did, and if it does.. does anyone know whats going on ?

  • dont know how to say this any plainer

the xbox does not have enough grunt to play native hdtv

  • well thanks for all your help

i copied the .ts files to the xbox itself and tried to play. one things for sure, it definitely wont stream it. the xbox played about 3 or 4 frames from the video when playing it straight off the hard drive. whats wierd is that my pc can stream it almost perfectly, with the occasional slip ups.

i guess its the xbox just not being able to handle it.. but its strange that instead of crashing or freezing, xbmc just returns to the directory list and continues working like it was fine.

    anyway thanks for your help

  • theres no way on this planet that a celeron 700 can play
    mpeg-2 1920x1080i/60hz : 17.0 mbps

but i would have expected it to try harder than what your getting.

but i must admit i've never attempted to stream something that big.

hope youve got a serious lan as i don't think 100mb would cut it probably whats causing the stop no more data left to play from the lan

  • ok well..
i dont know if they are native hdtv formats.. i said it was hdtv because the file name says hdtv and the filesize is about 7gb for a 40 minute tv show.

here is the .nfo info from the download

    format: atsc transport stream(.ts)
    aspect: 16:9 (1.78:1) oar
encoder: station uses haris unicoder hd mpeg-2 encoding hardware
    video: pid 0x11 : mpeg-2 1920x1080i/60hz : 17.0 mbps
    audio: pid 0x14 : ac3 5.1 / 48 khz : 384 kbps
    nulls: null packet stripped
    tested: myhd2 v1.65u (hardware player)
yadda: removed ota garbage, pids remapped, *broadcast flag marked
    m2repair: none

is this too much for the xbox?

  • i understand that... i dont even know if these are "native hdtv" format anyway, but from what i understand, xbmc can play mpeg2-ts files, and it starts to play it and then seems to quit after a second.

  • you started out by saying thay are hdtv streams .

so lets go back to basics

1 what are they ps or ts streams
2 what resolution are they encoded at
3 what bit rate is the audio at

it still sounds to me you are killing the xbox

what resolution do you have your display set at
    try reducing resolution/cache sizes

you symptoms are in line with running out of resources

  • i suspect its not the format as i stream mythtv terrestial digital in this format without issue.

but the xbox does not have enough grunt to play native hdtv

  • i've tried a number of different downloads with xbmc, and all have the same issue.

in videalan the steam properties say that the video codec format is mpgv and audio is a52. i dont know if that means anything to anyone else. im not too sure about what it means.
