So i want to make a simple file server with my old computer but its rather noisy. I am going to strip it all out (remove cd drive, floppy disk, sound card, modem, ect). I will also set it to hibernate 5mins after idle and to wake up on lan (BIOS). So it will only use power when needed. And because it will only use a bit of power would it be ok to remove the fans. I'll leave the side panel off too.ARE YOU KIDDING ME, CALL 911 RIGHT NOW WHY DON'T YOU.
Are you THAT annoyed by the fans?? if you are, you're willing to burn your HOUSE DOWN!!!sounds like a fire waiting to happen to me.The CPU fan cannot be left out. This fan has a control line and a fan speed detection line. The computer will not work without knowing the speed of the fan
The chassis fan can be removed. But sometimes the speed of this fan is also detected. If so, you can go to the Bios to disable the chassis fan detection routine.
The fan inside the power supply cannot not to touched of course.
Both the CPU fan and the fan inside the power supply can be off when the computer is not in its active mode.
Hope that helpHi
May I suggest that you purchase better quality fans that will run quite.
The computer will still need cooling even after you have stripped out the redundant parts. Often the fans supplied with the standard computer were of low quality so it will pay you to take a look at some good reviews of computer parts and enjoy safe, silent running.
Regards.you will need to cool down your heat-sink with a fan. You can get special HSFs with a manual control so you can set it low or, you can actually
leave the case closed since dust can build up and clog up your set up and start a fire but, make sure that there is enough ventilation and it is located somewhere sensible, i.e. suffocated under a bunch of junk!haha, thanks for the laugh
But seriously don't do it (especially don't remove the cpu fan and heatsink) because your processor will melt onto your motherboad!
Buy silent fans on newegg.com. They are very cheap I think i bought a dozen for like $10.
Oh and Server should be on 24/7 no standby or hibernate o.OAre you serious? The computer engineers put in fans for a reason. You sir are not an engineer. No you'll fry your chipsI don't think there will be a problem so long as you keep the CPU fan. I've managed to run a much much more powerful computer without the CPU fan for a few hours when the fan broke so just getting rid of the normal 80mm fans shouldn't make a difference.
However don't rely on what I say espcially if it is an old computer because they tend to be less efficent with heat.
Hope this helps.Don't remove the fans, within seconds the processor will start getting hot and die.. Just get a Slient fanIt wouldn't be wise to do any of that.
The fans are there for a reason,...to keep the inside of you're CPU cool.
To do all of what you have described is a Fire Hazard waiting to happen, not to mention other problems with you're PC after doing what you have said.
If you want a Quieter Fan in you're CPU you should fit a "Silent Fan"
You can buy them in all PC shops, and from Online Stores.
Here are a few to look at>http://www.quietpc.com/gb-en-gbp/product...
http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/Sear...
You have to make sure you get one that's right for you're system,so do some homework on it before you buy.No matter how many devices you remove your cpu will always be hot and you will always need fans. the Elements involved in the computers are extremely heat sensitive so the fan is an extremely important part of the Computer . as a solution to this you could buy a newer fan which if you buy from the right dealership will only cost about £20.It Will Be Fine...
If You Want To Set It On Fire. What you could do is use a passive heatsink on the chipset & a silent fan on the CPU - look at Zalman for a few ideas http://www.zalman.co.kr/ENG/product/Cate...
However, this still leaves you with the fan in the power supply, again, you can get silent power supplies (google it).
I would leave the case side on as even a silent powers supply has a fan that will draw air through the case which aids in cooling... as long as the case is fully assembled!
Have fun with your project :)
HTHIt will get extra cooling when the fire department sprays whats left of it.There are so called noise-reducing materials, made from silicone or rubber http://www.extreme-computers.ro/Detalii/... . Click this link to see what i'm talking about. Acoustic fan's or acoustic rubber feet for the pc. So don't spoil everything, just make it silent by going to an computer store in your area. Good Luckgo back to la la land you muppet.your prosseser fan no way in hell can you leave that off if you are having the case open then the case fans will not mater so much but deffontly do not remove your prosseser fan that will fry your prosseser in secoundsjust clean it out with some aerosol sprayIt still might be unwise to do that. The mere fact that it is using power to charge generates heat and it might catch on fire or melt.#If you have any other info about this subject , Please add it free.# |
