Let's Right the Ship

  • What do we do? We need something big to happen next season. Any ideas?

  • http://www.spurs.co.uk/article.asp?article=145352 Yup Teddy is out, they've decided not to renew his contract, nice, eh?

  • I'm all for a change in managers. Hoddle has made some really weird decisions and has lost some games that shouldn't have been lost. Yeah, we have had some injuries, but our squad was strong enough this season to deal with that issue. Player discontent seems to be on the rise and we all know he can't cut everyone that disagrees with what he is doing.

    Anyone else with me?

might be a good idea to stop letting Arsenal plunder your lineup for free transfers as well....

hmmm.... i wonder if Arsenal will sign Teddy "just for spite"? And put him in their lineup only when they play the Spurs?

  • I've read all the posts here and am glad to see that no one yet is calling for Kasey Keller's head. Would most of you die-hard Spurs fans agree or disagree that most of the late season collapse had more to do with the defense or the goalkeeping? Either way, I'm glad to see that no one (yet) is doing any Keller-bashing. I do know that Kasey is a top quality keeper and can't imagine him letting in all those late season goals without a very poor defense in front of him. That being said, I imagine that Tottenham really needs some top class defenders.

I have had a really hard time trying to figure out how much of the blame lies with Hoddle. I know there are some things that are beyond his control (injuries, ENIC), but there were defintiely some times that there were, at the least, implied coaching deficiencies. Some games where we should have gotten three pts instead of one, have given up a game winning/tieing goal late in the game, given up a goal very shortly after having scored, and so on. These are also things that could be a direct result of the players not doing what the coach is telling them to do. Thus, I have only recently grown weary of Hoddle, and am not necessarily calling for his head. However, I also wouldn't view a change as a step in the wrong direction (obviously depending on the new coach). I think we could have easily finished four or five spots higher in the table had we not had our heads up our asses during some of these matches.

Has ENIC honestly announced an amount we will have available to spend on signings this summer? I know they were saying, "there will be plenty", but did they ever announce a firm figure?

Announcing how much we had to spend would only drive up the prices on our transfer targets.

Teddy would never join the Arse. He publicly slammed Sol for doing so.

    Spurs need;

A big striker a la Viduka.

Faster midfielders to support the attack. If we're going to have crocks like Anderton and Redknapp, we need nippy little buggers to do the running.

A decent defensive midfielder. Toda isn't it.

Hoddle to play players in their positions. How long will it be until he realises that Bunjee is a defender?

Once again I look forward to next season with optimism. Surely we can't do any worse???

So now we are going to sack him and start over again? Switching managers every two years is not going to work, sticking with a manager who is slowly improving the team will.

    2001 12th 49 pts
    2002 9th 50 pts
    2003 10th 50 pts

I got these numbers off the Spurs site. If you want slow improvement, you've got it. And we finished a spot down from last season, which is not an improvement(not to mention the nine goals against in our last two matches). Two steps forward, one step back. At this rate we should break 65 pts by 2033 and I don't really want to wait that long. And when was the club threatened with relegation near the close of any recent season?

Again, I am not pushing for Hoddle's dismissal right now, but I will be questioning his every move and I certainly don't have much patience left for the man. I don't want to switch coaches every two years either, but I also don't want to give Hoddle five years and still be "surviving" at mid-table.

Glory? I started supporting in 1990 when I was 7, since then our top finish has been 7th and we've won an FA Cup and a Worthless Cup. What I would give to be living in 1961.

  • Funnily enough I was going to mention Keller, I don't think he has exactly covered himself in glory this season. I believe we have more pressing concerns though. Basically I am more worried about the defending as a whole, and that includes the midfield. There just seems to be a huge void in the middle of the park when we play and the oppsistion seems to create chances at will against us. I also am one who thinks Ledley King is utter crap.

  • To be fair to Kasey, anyone who watched the Man Utd game knows that we would of lost by about 6-0 had it not been for him. I think he suffered a bit in the confidence stakes with what was going on in front of him. We definitley need a decent partner for Richards and a battling midfielder in front of them. Without either we are always going to concede too many goals.

I hope so. Especially the part about playing him against us. Will everyone get it straight that Sherri was released because he is old, and not very good. The press acts like we are supposed to give him a new contract just because he used to be great (meanwhile saying all our players are too old the next day).

Gving up nine goals in the last two games isn't going to work either, especially giving up goals within four minutes of the start of each half. I haven't said a word about Hoddle all season. Now that the season is over, I feel that the club is NOT improving, which is glaringly obvious. Even from the beginning of the season, we are in a worse position. I am not demanding a change, but I will definitely view Hoddle with much more scrutiny, and won't wait long into the next season before wondering aloud what the hell he is doing. The third year should be plenty of time for him to mold his team, which hopefully won't resemble what we have seen the last two weeks.

The end of this season has been embarassing to the club and its supporters. Even the ones here in the states that don't have to listen to a bunch of talk from supporters of other EPL teams.

Diagraceful football is just that, no matter the coach or how you view it. We are pathetic and changes need to be made.
