Joost Support

  • You think XBMC could run a form of Joost (http://www.joost.com/)?
Is anyone working on a script/add-on for XBMC to possibly run Joost?

    Thanks,
    -BassKozz

p.s. If anyone wants an invite to Joost I have plenty:D , just PM me with:
Firstname: (you can make it up if you want)
    Lastname: (Ditto from above)
e-mail: (Must be valid to get the invite)

  • I haven't seen a movie on Joost to make the effort worth while. Have you found any good shows or anything worth watching?

  • Thank BassKozz for the invite. Up and running on Vista with only a few minor problems.

  • thanks for the invite BassKozz:D

  • An Invite would be good too if someone doesn't mind?!

    PM me with your e-mail

  • One things for sure, if I had Joost on XBMC, my Xbox would be on 24/7. :)

  • i've seen lots of cool stuff but a lot of it is like discovery channel type stuff, which i guess isn't everybody's thing

  • Also see:

    http://mashable.com/2007/08/30/joost-api/

and to get in on developing JOOST for XBMC, which would be incredible, go to

    http://groups.google.com/group/joost-dev

    and

    http://www.programmableweb.com/api/joost

    WE NEED THIS!

  • I say the same thing as I did in the request for a TiVo Desktop script (http://xbmc.org/forum/showthread.php?p=136962):

Is there even an open and fully documented API (Application Program Interface) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/API) and/or detailed protocol specifications available?, or does it require closed source software or object-code from Joost? I could not find specifics on their site. Plus I'm not sure that even if there's an open API that their license is (or will be) compatible with GPL or LGPL (which we would require for native XBMC integration).

PS! Also, does it rely on any DRM (Digital Rights Management) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_rights_management) copy protection technology?, and/or does it require a proprietary (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proprietary) video player software from Joost?

...a different name for DRM and proprietary technologies: C.R.A.P. (Cancellation, Restriction, And Punishment)

    This is definitely worth exploring.

  • It would be great to see Joost on XBMC, but as previously suggested, it's doubtful the XBox has the power to run it. When running it on my system it takes around 25% of my CPU and that's a dual core AMD 4400+, it also takes around 130Mb of memory.

  • But joost work as some sort of peer to peer as I got it, so I figure it'd need pretty heavy programming to get it to work on xbmc, but it'd be seriously cool though!

  • that actually sounds quite reasonable. If it's possible I'd say that's our best bet.

  • I can imagine that if it isn't possible to run something like a real joost client within XBMC, it might still be possible to run the client on a pc and stream the contents to the xbox.

  • Hey there are some good things on Joost, I just watched the first episode of Transformers, there is fight tv. and some other decent channels.

  • thanx for the invite!

    NP

  • Ok, no more PM's please...

I found a solution that will allow anyone to invite themselves to Joost :D

So if you want an invite to Joost go here: http://joost.com/presents/gigaom-newteevee/

    Thanks,

p.s. I really hope someone can get joost to run on XBMC, that would be awesome.
