Hyperlinks in Word don't work/open (any suggestions?)

  • Hello all, I have a user who is experiencing a very strange situation in Word. When she creates a new Word document, and manually types in a hyperlink, she can't open it. However, the person she sends it to can. And vice versa (she can't open any hyperlink in any document sent to her). Word does format the text as a hyperlink (the text is underlined and blue), it just won't open. Also, when you place the mouse over the hyperlink, it never turns into the hand symbol. It remains an arrow. As a work around, she's been cutting and pasting the URL in Internet Explorer or Netscape to open. She had MSOffice2000 on her workstation. I ran a repair, and that didn't help. I uninstalled and installed MSOffice2000 again with no results. I even upgraded her to MSOfficeXP, and still nothing. I also cleaned the registry on her computer. The settings in Word are identical to those on a computer where this works. Note: she can do this in Excel, but only uses Word. Does anyone else have any other suggestions or solutions.

  • On the Tools-> Options Edit tab, does she happen to have the box for "use control click to follow hyperlinks" checked?

Yes, it was checked by default. But I unchecked it and tested. Still doesn't work.
