Please would you list the symptoms of exposure to Hydrogen Sulphide?
We are exposed to a really nasty odour in the communal areas of our
blocks of flats and believe it to be Hydrogen Sulphide. Thank you.Dear martinesmith-ga;
Thank you for allowing me to answer your interesting question.
Symptoms related to exposure to hydrogen sulphide vary depending on
how high the concentration is. Generally speaking, this excerpt seems
to sum it up:
?Hydrogen sulphide if extremely toxic. Workers are exposed when they
inhale hydrogen sulphide in air, and this gas is quickly absorbed by
the lungs. It is believed that exposure to hydrogen sulphide prevents
the brain from using oxygen by inhibiting the enzyme cytochrome
oxidase.?
?Short?term (acute) exposure to hydrogen sulphide can cause irritation. to the
nose, throat, eyes and lungs. Exposure to higher concentrations can
cause very serious health effects, and even death.?

You will also note that there is a very nice chart beginning on page
three that outlines much more serious symptoms related to hydrogen
sulphide exposure at progressive levels.
