I have asthma and got my prescription filled for Proair HFA and I took 2 puffs over 2 hours ago. So far there isn't any improvement.. my chest still hurts and I can take any deep breaths.
Is it ok to take another puff??
Make sure that the canister's warmed to body temp, shaken vigorously and primed before attempting to use it. Warm it under your arm or in the crook of your knee for a minute or so, then shake it for another minute or so to stir the medication in the canister. Dispense a puff into the air; this insures that every puff you inhale contains active, fresh medication. Hold the mouthpiece an inch or so outside of your lips. Do not put it in your mouth, this dispenses the medication at the back of your throat (causing it to be ingested, taking it longer to work). Actuate it as you inhale, shake it again for several seconds and dispense it again. Keep track of the number of times you use it to make sure you always have a good supply of medication in your canister. The canister will not be empty even when all of the medicine is gone; there's a liquid propellant inside that will give you the false hope of medicine.
If this still doesn't help, you may need something in addition to that medication or a daily medicine to help combat these rescue happenings.
I hope I've helped-good luck and God bless!
