Hodd Urged to Quit by TAG

Glenn Hoddle has been advised to walk away from his job as Tottenham manager rather than 'carry the can' for the White Hart Lane board.
The shock call has come from the re-formed Tottenham Action Group, who claim Hoddle has not been backed in the transfer market by the club's owners ENIC.
The supporters' pressure group are disappointed that Hoddle made just one loan signing during January's transfer window and released four senior players, including two key strikers
    ......
'Under ENIC, Spurs fans pay the most expensive ticket prices in the country - it is cheaper to watch Arsenal or Chelsea,' said the spokesman.

'We have been told that there is a five-year plan to turn Tottenham around and make us into a club that competes in the Champions League on a regular basis.
'But no-one has been allowed to see this plan and two years into it we are still languishing in mid-table.
'Since they took over, ENIC have raised ticket prices to record levels and taken away a number of benefits from season ticket holders. At the same time they have given Hoddle less to spend than any of his predecessors.
'It is not exactly a recipe designed to keep Spurs fans happy. You have to wonder just how long people are going to remain loyal to a club that is happy to take our money but gives us back very little in return.'

  • I think Sir Les and Rebrov are a bit more sodding 'key' than Gary 'Shyte' Doherty. The TAG lot are blind to the fact that Hoddle hasn't exactly been complaining of late about the board, then came the 'Q&A' with Daniel Levy, Hodd, and the Spurs fans. Turns out that somehow we're £17million in debt. About $25million. Work that out. Apparantely, we've spent a bundle, on who I don't know.

  • I agree with Bert. What TAG says rings true and despite the grief (and hatred) they get from some fans who consider them disloyal, they are the one supporter movement that, over the years, has been willing to have a go at the club's decision makers when it's become clear that they are just not making a serious effort to restore our beloved Spurs to the days when we seriously competed with the likes of Manure and Arse and when our fans could take pride in their Lilywhites on the pitch.

I also agree with Jum in your implied regret that Sir Les and Rebby were taken out of the picture when we desperately needed (and of course still do need) fire power up front.

I went back to England in late Dec and early Jan. I could only make the Saints FA Cup game and it was a horrible display for a Spurs fan to endure -- although interesting to see St Mary's Stadium for the first time.

Robbie Keane was giving it his all but most of the rest of the players didn't seem to give a toss and there was simply no team cohesion.

With Robbie out, little wonder we've been ***************.

I think TAG has a role as the court jester that periodically reminds the THFC big wigs that, despite the propaganda machine to the contrary, they aren't wearing any clothes -- and that's scary!

If the decision makers at the club are going to charge premium prices for supporters to come to The Lane, then show those fans that the club is serious about restoring entertaining, high quality football on the pitch. Not the crap we saw against Fulham or away at West Ham, to name but two recent disasters we have endured (live on TV in my case).

  • The criticism is somewhat justified IMHO. However I do not see "two key strikers" among the four players let go during the January window.
