  • Yes, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natalie_du_...

Natalie du Toit has won 6 Paralympic medals, she took part of the 10 km Outdoor swiming at the Beijing Olympics
  • Yes, the African swimmer Natalie du Toit did, and still came 16th which is awesome!
  • Yes there was a South-African swimmer her name is natalie du toit
  • There are at least 3 athletes that I can recall:

The one that has received the most press coverage is Natalie du Toit, a South African swimmer with a single-leg amputation. She competed in the 10km marathon swimming event in the Olympics, where she finished 16th. She competed in the 2004 Paralympics, where she won 5 golds and a silver medal. She is currently competing in the Paralympics and has already won three gold medals in the S9 category.

Natalia Partyka, a Polish table tennis player who was born without one of the forearms, competed in table tennis in the 2008 Olympics. She recently won the gold medal in her category at the Paralympics, as she did in 2004.

American runner Marla Runyan, a visually impaired person, competed in the 1992, 1996, and 2000 Paralympics, winning 5 medals in total. She also competed in the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, where she finished 8th in the 1500m. As an interesting fact, she also won the gold medal in the able-bodied Pan-American Games in 1999.

Dozens more have attempted to qualify for the Olympics, like Oscar Pistorius, a South African sprinter, but haven't yet succeeded in their quest.
  • The examples given are all disabled athletes who have competed in the Paralympics, THEN managed to also qualify for an edition of the Olympics. They're great examples but if you read the way the question is phrased, I'm not sure thats what marxsparx was asking. He might be wondering what I was wondering the other day - that is has any able bodied athlete competed at the Olympic Games, then had the incredible misfortune of sustaining a disability in some sort of accident and gone on to compete at the Paralympic Games. Nobody has that I know of???
