Form with dropdown lists AND hyperlinks needed too.

  • Good Afternoon Gentle People,
Hope you're are surviving this day - no, surpassing this day!
I'm using Word 97 and 2000. I have a form that I've inserted text fields and drop list (combos) fields.
I'd love to have 2 columns in the drop list fields - one column for the selection, and the other column for the description of the item that's in column 1. (eg - Col. 1 contains 'Emergency'; Col. 2 describes what constitutes an emergency).
    But I don't think that's possible.
So..... I was going to use hyperlinks (and bookmarks) to take the user to a table at the end of the document to see what the entries and descriptions are; another hyperlink to take the user back to the form.
My problem is that after I've entered the fields and the hyperlinks and saved and locked the document; the fields works but my hyperlinks no longer work.
How - or what do I use - to get around this?
    Any ideas ??
    Many thanks to you!
    Enjoy your day!
    Lori

  • Thanks for that Anne.
Good idea about the section breaks - unfortunately the hyperlink is inside a table. groaaaannnnnnnnn.
So I've just put a text box letting them know the reference table is at the end of the document. Make 'em work!

  • As long as you can put a continous section break above and below each hyperlink, you can then project all sections that DON'T contain hyperlinks...

Don't even think about putting a hyperlink in the middle of a table, tho.

  • hyperlinks do not work in locked forms.
but Dreamboat offers a workaround here (http://www.theofficeexperts.com/word.htm#Fill-inForms)
You'll have to scroll down some. Basically, it will require macros.

  • Thanks very much for that information. So basically it means that hyperlinks don't work - but buttons do. That's a great workaround (thanks Anne).
Unfortunately, in our network; we have more 'thin clients' running in a Citrix environment and macros (in Word) aren't a viable solution. Rats! I wish the Word and the Excel guys had spent more time together bonding! :)
Thanks again for your kind assistance.
