finacial crimes/jail terms

  • please define the crime of stealing water from the house next door and the jail term for that crime

  • What state did this happen in? How much, in total dollar value, is the amount of the water she has stolen? Is the source of the water being stolen part of the municial water system, (supplied by the city water lines) or she stealing water that is being pumped from your well? Also, is the neighbor stealing water from YOUR service or illegally hooked up to the city's water supply.

  • I would say tutzdad is on the right track. It will depend on where you live, i.e. which particular state, what the value of the stolen water is, and how well you can document this. I would doubt that there would be any jail term for a crime such as this, even if it was prosecuted. Some places have stiff penalties for stealing from municipal services like water and power, but usually only when stealing from the city, not from another paying customer.

  • state juristiction....? my neighbor has been stealing my water for over one year and i have the water bill and the date her service was shut- off for nonpayment. what is the charge and how long may she serve in jail?
