I have a ear infection and my Doctor gave me Bactrim DS and Ciprodex. My ear seems to have gotten worse since I've seen her. My ear hurts I cant really touch it, my ear is swollen inside and out and its causing my jaw to hurt so I cant open my mouth and I cant hear out of the ear with the infection, it sounds like I am under water. My question is will this medication eventually clear up the fluid and infection and if so how long will it take or should I go to the hospital and have my ear drained? This started Saturday and I was put on the medicine Monday.
I was gently massaging around my ear and it seemed to drain very little, my Mother advised me not to rub it and since I've stopped there has been no more draining. When I use the Ciprodex (ear drops) they just sit in my ear and will not go down into my ear canal the Doctor said lay on my said for 1 min when I first started using them, when that didn't work she said 3 mins now she is saying 5 and it still is not going down in my ear.open your moth when you put the drops in it might work, and try popping your ears by holding your nose and forcing air out of your ears. That used to make me fell slightly better when I used to get a bunch of ear infections. You might have to ge ear drained though talk to a doctor again.Let your doctor know the treatment isn't working. If the ear canal is so swollen that the drops cant get down to where the infection is you may need to have a wick inserted in the ear (a piece of cotton or an expandable sponge) to get the drops down deeper. You may also have to have the ear suctioned to get out debris so the drops can penetrate into the canal.
