I'm new to using IRC for file downloading. From what I've seen so
far, people say, "Don't use scripts!" But a couple other people have
said, "If you're downloading files without scripts, you're doing it the
hard way." So, is the autoget program at http://www.omenscripts.org/
safe to use? Do you recommend something else?
I'll tip a few extra dollars for answers to: Where can I find the most
comprehensive archives of ebooks and audiobooks (other than gutenberg,
undernet:bookz, undernet:audiobookz, alt.binaries.ebook/e-books)?
What's a "proofpack server"?I am not an IRC maven, so I can't help with that, but regarding online

regularly and does file downloading, it should be something they could
answer off the top of their head (if not about Omenscript Autoget,
then about something else). I've seen other IRC related answers here,
so I'd guess that some researcher either knows about this or knows
someone who knows.
By safe, all I mean is that the script isn't going to let viruses and
stuff loose on my computer.

i'll prefer not to use a script because it's not custom made for you
so it usually comes with more utility or stuff than you ever need
for example omenscript got message center and omenserv utility
which i'll not used if i use irc primarily only for d/l ing.
am i right ? :)
i'll prefer using specific element and add it on irc to give it more power.
like xdcc get or fserv navigator.
and another reason is you won't know whether the script got trojan
inside the script. but for widely used script, it should've been
checked by some curious user right ?well it might be because it's actually illegal to d/l ed

i also use mirc a lot for d/l ing.
so here's the tip
u can use xdccGet for d/l ing from xdcc server
and ren ren fserv navigator to d/l ing from fserv and xdcc (not really
good for xdcc but it's supported)
as for ebooks why not use bittorrent instead
