I believe I have swung both ways - pacifist at times and militant at others. At times I have held the opinion of "live and let live", and at other times I've seen theism as pernicious anti-rationalism that should be fought against tooth and nail - since theists seem incapable of maintaining their religion as a private affair without forcing it on others or trying to establish its tenets as laws for everyone.
Where are you? Are you a "militant" atheist?Yes, I guess you could call me a militant atheist. I can't tolerate stupidity.I'm probably leaning towards militancy as I think anyone delusional enough to believe in any breed of creature that lives in the ether to be a potential danger to society.
They only need to trip a delicately balanced switch and they'll start killing cos their 'god' told them to ... eg George Bush.
~Before 9/11 - didn't really care
After that, I decided that fundamentalist theism is an immediate danger to us all.
Look, there's no sweeping 9/11 under the carpet. It happened, and fundamentalism IS to be blamed, and must be addressed.Am I "vigorously active and aggressive" in my lack of belief in the existence of god(s)?
Heh heh... yeah, sure, why not.No.
As long as they keep out of my govt, my schools, and my face, I'm good.YES!
It's my opinion that religion is the single most dangerous thing facing humans today. I believe that humanity should do all it can to peacefully wipe it from the face of the planet.I am one of those annoying ones who doesn't care what you believe as long as you don't try to force your stupidity on others . If you insist on it I will happily tell you how redicilious you are .ohh! thank god there is the internet and i can find people who agree with me in such things.
I am always being asked by my mother and others to keep my atheism quite as if i had some contagious decease, but i say why must christians not do the same?
I do hate it when they start talking about god and jesus as if were their next door neighbour and asked them for favours , I cannot help to think they are delusional and insane and can't helped to tell them, specially when they begin babbling about how god created the universe and that's when sometimes i lose it!
but try end remain calm and explain my opposing views.
what does make me angry its that they think i am the ignorant one!
aaahhhgggg!
I shouldn't have to hide my real self just as they don't mind looking crazy to me!
Ooh yes, speaking my mind is very militant of me....I should really do something to moderate this aggression of mine..Thank you for this question and realizing atheist can become as bad as their counterparts. I try to be as existential as possible even before I knew there was such a thing. Live and let live is the best policy. Consider ALL points. If someone is shoving their beliefs down your throat, whether it be atheist or a belief in a spiritual being know this is a dogma. It limits free thinking. Tell them this.
I believe all should feel comfortable expressing their views and accept the fact no everyone will feel the same as they do. Not only is that ok, but it is a wonderful thing. The day we all think alike is the day we should be replaced by machines.Militant Agnostic: I cannot know and NEITHER CAN YOU!
Thanks so much for asking!Everybody's entitled to their own belief. I believe that religion is myth. I'm militant when it effects me, my family or my friends. Otherwise, I don;t mind. Well, I do mind people being ignorant and then encouraging their children to be ignorant.I'm just about right smack dab in the middle.Actively passive, and passively militant. It (religion) definitely bothers me more than it used to.#If you have any other info about this subject , Please add it free.# |
