Amusing that atheists define themselves relative to the concept of God?

On this topic...if atheism is simply not believing in God, then we are all born atheists. So why do atheists regard themselves as being enlightened, when they have not advanced from their original state? It is religion that post-dates atheism, not vice versa.
Atheism is filled with such oddities and contradictions. Unfortunately atheists never apply any critical thought to atheism (or natural science).
Another example...most atheists base their beliefs on the axiom: "there's a natural explanation for everything." Of course if this is true, then there is also a natural explanation for whether or not people believe in God...which reduces atheism to irrelevancy.
Of course most atheists are not actually atheists...they are anti-theists, not simply not believing that God exists, but rather believing that God does not and cannot exist.
Amusing.

I know plenty of atheists who are great people and who are out there doing great things for the world, so maybe you should focus your effort into other things besides trying to tell people they can't make a choice for themselves to not believe in God.
Maybe some people don't feel this connection to God. That doesn't make them a bad person. And using science to prove things makes sense to me.

Control by fear is deeply rooted in God s Plan of Salvation So if you think that you got saved GOOD FOR YOU!!! Make sure that you pay your FULL tithes and offering on time or God the Holy Ghost will zap you on the spot and the church people will give you a decent Christian burial without telling anybody in your family. This is the New Testament killing of Christians after Jesus did away with the LAW of the Old Testament! You can t test God the Holy Ghost a.k.a. The Comforter he is very touchy Saint Paul says that many Christians get sick because of it. So if you get sick it may be that you lag behind in paying your dues to the Church!

THE CLERGY PROFILE

Jesus said that HE DIDN T COME TO CHANGE THE LAW!!! But the clergy says that Jesus fulfilled the Law whatever that means and that the Old Testament is no longer valid!!! SHAME ON JESUS FOR LYING !!! Christians would much rather listen to the clergy!
Nothing promotes religion better than the story of a few killings and some coercion to keep the Christian population UNDER A SMILEY CLERGY CONTROL! Believe it or not, most Christians honestly believe that because they are still alive God must love them! So that is why they don t pay much attention to any of the above. Today we have Clergy led Christians promoting the Bible to make it the Law of the Land! Not even the NAZIS were that bad!
And I am not defined, as a human being, by my atheism. The concept of "god" is not the the foundation of my "self-identity."
I don't even think about the idea of "gods" when I am not reading or posting here on R & S or when I am not occasionally worrying about what new evil might next be inflicted upon the world by religious nutjobs.
1)Many of us discard the idea of a "supreme being" or a "deity" not a god per se.
2)That some thing pre-dates something else is not enough evidence that what came first is more primitive or less advance. It goes unsaid the many advances the Greeks and the Romans had in their times that later in the Dark Ages was overlooked, which by the way post-dated these. One big misconception people have about evolution is that what pre-dates us is inferior in some form... Maybe less complex but not inferior, because we don't know that evolution is linear and with an upward directionality.
3)Of course there is a natural explanation why humans believe in god. Psychologist have not pinpoint it yet, but we're getting there. Let me tell you it goes somewhere along the lines of looking for meaning and answers, and of course fear.
Honestly, I avoid the label atheist as much as I can. Not because of what you said, but because I find it to be rather lacking in its ability to describe me. It's just one small part of who I am.

I don't think you know what words mean.
And yes we are all born atheists, unfortunately some of us are bombarded with silly superstitions as children (ever noticed how children believe everything you tell them?) and as we grow these beliefs are reinforced by the deluded sections of society. I have no problem with anyone believing whatever they like but brainwashing children is one of the reasons why I have such a problem with religion.
You say atheists never apply any critical thought to atheism or natural science...ahem, that's the whole point of atheism, critical thought, we question everything and only believe in something which has some credibility, correct me if I'm wrong but isn't religion based on blind faith? Critical thought is something that is definitely lacking in religion.

Atheist can denounce God all day long and all we can do is try to convince otherwise. But say something about the rediculousness of refusing to believe in God and your in for it.
I would rather believe in something and live a good life, and end up dieing and finding out its ture so im saved from hell. And if I die and it wasnt real...well atleast I lived a good life helping others and never letting go of hope.
You are the one who needs to get a life.
