A quick question for Yahoo! R&S: Have you ever worried that your personal identity might be compromised here?
And between my husband and I we have enough handsguns, rifles and shotguns to outfit a small militia. Stalk me? Yea right!! I would hold them at gunpoint and FORCE them to listen to the Mormon missionaries!!! Shotgun conversion baby!!
I do worry about young people who aren't careful though and I think they need to take steps to protect their identity.
No. All my friends, colleagues and enemies like to go on chat lines like MSN messenger or those international ones but I like these forums better.
Cheers,
Michael Kelly
No, I have not worried about that until now. I mean, I was aware that people could see my pic and recognize me (it has actually already happened, when an old friend of mine --whom I had not seen in *years*-- saw my photo on Yahoo and messaged me to ask if it was actually me), but I have never truly worried about that until now. Why would someone try to figure out my full name, my school and my place of employment based *ONLY* on Y!A unless they were in need of serious help? That would be stalker behaviour... *big time*.
I have made many friends here on Y!A, as well as in many other forums, and never once have I tried to track anything down like that about someone. There are plenty of fascinating people here, but I would never insult them by investigating their personal information. I've made several friends who have went on to become friends of mine offline as well, and luckily nobody has ever gone weirdo on me. Some of the best friends I have had in the last few years are people I met online (in forums) and went on to exchange phone numbers with, and later hang out with. If any one of them had ever seemed to display obsessive signs (like tracking down my personal info) I would have cut off contact immediately and let them know the friendship was over.
If someone did just show up at my house, or my school, or my office / lab, out of nowhere, after tracking down everything they could about me here, I would call the police in a *heartbeat*. People like that are unhealthy and I have no patience or compassion for people like that.
but I am an adult and not usually the target of stalkings (only one harassment issue so far).
for the kids and the women on here I think they should be extra careful that people can't read all their answers and put together who they are or where they are from
never give school info
never give full name, in fact, just use a nickname if you want more conversation with someone.
never give address or info other than "i live in the USA"
DON'T post pictures of you that can be enlarged to identify you...
99.9% of the people on here are harmless, but the one psycho will hunt you down and use all that info.
never give info about yourself no matter how tempting, you have local friends to do that with.
person with mental problems located home and was sending threatening mail to home address....
be careful of what info is on site....
I find that worry and fear are a compromise to what one should be expending their energy's on.
I did enjoy Definition of Love by Francisco de Quevedo.
I feel those words truly reflect on this verse found in the Christan bible,
"Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all." I believe God wants us to treat each other with the love as a child would. More hearts are healed by a receiving love than a condescending one.
Best regards, Miss Christie
