videoplaylists?

  • I've been wondering if there is a way to aggregate all of the movies that are distributed on various PCs throughout my network. I have my movies, my kids have theirs, some more reside on a NAS. I'm not too keen on getting any one device that could handle all of the files, but it sucks having to know which movie is where.

When I was looking at the Add New Share for UPnP, I noticed (for the first time, not sure how long it's been there) Video Playlists, aka special://videoplaylists

Would that do what I want? Or is that just a way to get a sequence of videos to play? I've searched the wiki and forums and haven't found anything.

Alternatively, if I setup a UPnP server like MediaHome, could I share network shares from other PCs and get it to work that way?

  • Just add all the sources of movies as paths in one source. That way they all appear under the same source.

Wow! Just tried that and, of course, it works!

I had no idea that was possible

    Thanks!

Alternatively, set it all up using the video library.

And yes, assuming the UPnP server you choose will share all the files you want, that is another option.
