Hi all. I'm running XBMC from March 17 2007 and have been streaming videos (mostly AVIs) from my laptop wirelessly to a netgear router and then wired to XBOX for several months now with no problems. Recently I've started to notice that videos have begun to freeze or even stop playing completely and send me back to the Videos screen (sometimes after a 20 or so second black screen). My wireless network hasn't changed nor has the XBOX itself or any other environmental variables.
My first thought was that I need to clean up the cache or something on the XBOX but a search of various wikis and support threads yielded no reference to such a solution.
Do you think my issue is simply related to my wireless network..i.e. a lack of bandwidth? Or is there something else I might need to consider that can boost my streaming performance. Any help would be much appreciated.what do you mean "check with another computer? I only have one computer? And what do you mean by "huge ups and downs"? Do you mean fluctuations in speed? How exactly can I test this with just one computer? Is there a way to ping my internal network somehow even if I have only 2 devices (laptop and xbox)? If my neighbor is screwing my bandwidth with another wireless network how can I fix that?I'm having the same issue as yourself. I've found that it only occurs when watching files through library. What happens is when I watch any tv show or movie through library mode after approx 10mins the screen will go black then return to the movie page. occassionally it will hang on the black screen and require a restart. All media is streamed from my pc via wired networks to 2 different xboxes. This happens on both boxes and occurs in both t3ch 20-05-07 release and 27-05-07 release, not tried any older ones yet. I have found that if I navigate to my shares and play the file rather than running it from the library all files play without problems. My library has 1000+ movies and 3000+ tv eps and it happens with all files. I was thinking caching issue also and have tried increasing the cache size but it has made no difference. anyone else got any further forward with this?does anyone know a good (free?) wireless network utility that would allow you to view said data? (users, intrusions, bandwidth up/down, etc).
Thanks!I'd agree with DReffects, it's more likely to be something to do with your laptop or network.
KlausI have 5 possible culprits in my mind now:
1) my bluetooth radio on my laptop. I realize that it operates at a different frequency but perhaps that has had some affect. I've started disableing it which seems to help. Tho the 2 may be unrelated
2) I'm also concerned that Utorrent might be maintaining some sort of connections even when closed.
3) When I pause or skip into a movie or TV show the skipping seems to get worse. Sometimes I'm forced to restart the XBOX. This leads me to believe that some sort of internal cache is full or having difficulty.
4) my neighbor or another wireless user is interfering on my channel
5) the wired connection from my xbox to the router ( maybe 25 feet) is picking up electrical interference from somewhere causing the signal to degrade.
Is there anyway to test the actual speed between the xbox and the router as well as the xbox and my laptop? It seems that ping would result in times that were too fast to be meaningful.I have a Netgear router that is doing the same thing as Barnis' xbox is. I have two different xbox's and 3 hardwired PCs and two wireless Macs. Same thing though.... all of a sudden it is a problem. I have another post going where someone suggested it might be an overheating problem. I have tested this to no avail... I am also in process with Netgear, but am doubtful that wil lead anywhere. Let me know if you found anythiing out and I will do the same.check via another computer on your router if you have huge ups and downs with your wlan transfers. maybe a neighbour has actived a wicked wlan network that harms your bandwidth or something#If you have any other info about this subject , Please add it free.# |
