Live Out Your Dreams: Model Railroad Electronics
Most model railroad electronics run of DC current, although some do use AC if the manufacturer programs it as such. There are three main model railroad electronics systems out there and all sets actually run off of one of them. The three rail system is common if you have older model trains. They cannot operate off of newer model railroad electronics systems. Although the two outer tracks are for the wheels of the train, the middle rail is actually the one that powers it. It does look unconventional and messy now but it works a treat and is possibly the nearest to old style tracks that there is available. They would not look right on two rail tracks, and that is the model railroad electronics system that is commonly used in conjunction with the more common plastic model trains now. It is efficient and extremely effective.
The type of model trains and tracks that you decide to buy is completely up to you. Some collectors prefer the older model railroad electronics systems whilst others believe that the new system is more efficient. It just depends which one you can get on with best
