Has the U. of Michigan Football really slid that far?

  • Let me start by saying I live in Southern California and have a distant interest in the Big 10 and Michigan Football.

I have always noticed a trend... they lose the Rose Bowl or any other out of conference game. I started to wonder why?

Then, a few years ago, I saw something facinating to me. They were playing in the "Big House" against undefeated Penn St. 13 seconds to go and they were on the Penn St. 40. They took the snap...
    no one was open...
    no one was still open...
the QB scrambles to the far sidelines...
    throws over the middle...
the Reciever catches the ball and runs all the way to the sidelines...
goes out of bounds at the 3 yard line...

Now here is the facinating part: the Referee puts 3 seconds back on the clock allowing Michigan one more chance to win the game! Michigan did in fact win the game and a year or two later, the Referee was caught for his gambling problem and for cheating.

Then there was the Appalacian State game. After they went ahead, the referees refused to call penalties against Michigan. Like on the 3rd and long with time running out, they caught the ball, the Reciever was 2 and a half steps out of bounds when the Michigan Defender plowed the Reciever with no penalty that would have allowed them to run out the clock.

This is why I believe Michigan really has not slid very far. The Big Ten Officals will do anything to allow Michigan to win... Until they have become overly-pathetic.

What do you think? Am I way off? Please keep your answers objective without personal attacks.

  • I think this year is the last of a few years of downward spiral. they have not beaten Ohio State in 4 straight years, one year with the chance to go to the NC game. that means that something aint right for Michigan. next year I expect them to do much better, and finally bring the Big 10 some respect. when things are right, you've got 3 or 4 top 20 teams, Ohio, Michigan, Penn, Wisconsin.

  • Personally, I think the Big Ten Officiating has been very corrupt for a very long time.

And scum (Michigan) always floats to the surface. They diserve every bad that is happening to them.

Like with all the Rose Bowl games they have lost.

    Happy fishing.

  • i live in ohio and i am a huge michigan fan i hate to think that the big 10 officals cheat just to let michigan win. .. Michigan lost a lot of seniors since last year and they have lost lloyd carr. last year i sat in front of my tv with my husband and children and cried when lloyd carr decided to retire to give up michigan... i felt so let down. to me ohio state and their coach have huge egos that need deflated and you can bet i will be chearing michigan on the 22nd of november when they play at ohio stadium. i dont think michigan has slidden that far.. i think hope maybe that they are giving mchigan the chance to show what they are made of. to show michigan that not all is lost.
ive heard that all refs bet all refs gamble. MAYBE SO but not all get caught.

i know this doesnt answer your question but its my opinion.

    Go Blue!!!!!!!!

    Michigan Wolverines All The Way!!!!

  • Yes you are way off. They are the winning-est program in College football history (by games not championships) so any losing season is a big slide.

  • Michigan is by far and away the worst team in college football. Their offense is non-existent, and when it DOES get some decent yardage (like it did against Notre Dame with 388 total yards) it turns the ball over 6 times. Our defense is trash to. 0 sacks against a team that gave up 58 sacks last season. 501 yards to illinois. Obi Ezeh shows up one game then dissapears the next game. The entire secondary is pathetic. Morgan Trent? Trash. Donovan Warren? Trash. Stevie Brown? Trash. Brandon Harrison? One game wonder.....trash. Our DE's are trash to. Tim Jamison has the biggest mouth ever, and he never backs it up. Ditto Terrance Taylor (apparently losing all that weight hurt him instead of helping him. he was much more explosive lasts season). Brandon graham was impressive last season but this year heâ ™s been a colossal bust (even though he DID look impressive against Wisconsin). Our offense and defense are trash. Our special teams are trash as well. No punt return and kick return unit, and terrible return coverage. Even Mr. reliable (K.C Lopata) ***** us over like Gingell did against App State.

All that talent laid to waste....what a ******* shame. RR should be fired right now. Growing pains is one thing, but this is not growing pains. This is a ******* disaster. Michigan will get crushed in each of their remaining games. a 2-10 season WILL take place. And don't tell me to 'wait" for RR to develop his team. Thatâ ™s what Bill Callahan tried to tell Nebraska fans and look where that got the Cornhuskers. Michigan is going down the exact same road as the Cornhuskers, and they better fire RR right now that way they get off that road.

they need to do whatâ ™s worked for 40 years now: go in house. Michigan will never bee a powerhouse again. That was probably confirmed with the loss to App State. But at least when we hire "in house" and go with a Bo schembechler product (like mike Debord or ideally Les Miles) then Michigan can still win at least 8 games every year and make it to a Bowl game (and forget about Ohio State, the buckeyes will own us until tressell retires. Its about time Michigan stops focusing on trying to get to Ohio states level. Itâ ™s no longer realistic anymore. the Buckeyes permenently own Michigan). And if we go in house, then at least we'll have a 1997 or 1999 every once in awhile. But under a new coach like RR, we'll be nothing more then a horrible 3-9 team.

RR is trash. his offense is trash. His cultural mentality is trash. and his assistants are trash. Iâ ™d transfer if I was Sam Mcguffie,. there's ain;t no hope at Michigan. No wonder Newsome decommited. Forcier and Beaver will probably decommit by February as well

Its just so sad to see the number one college football program of all time completely fall apart. The Michigan Wolverines are my favorite team of all time. i'll stick by them to the very end. But my God.......this is really depressing to see them suck up the joint. I'd be looking to join the MAC if I was Michigan. the bottom of the Big ten is shitty, however, teams at the top like Ohio State, Penn State, and Wisconsin are constant powerhouses. Illinois and Michigan State are on the up and up as well, and i think pat Fitzgerald has something special gonig on at Northwestern. Michigan has NO CHANCE of being a regular 10 win team in the Big Ten. They should join the MAC that way the Wolverines can at elast win 10 games every season and continue to be the number one winningest program of all time. Besdies, based on the way they'e played against their last 4 MAC opponents (34-26 over Ball State, 33-22 over eastern Michigan, and 16-6 over Miami OH, and a 13-10 loss to Toledo), thats the conference that Michigan belongs in. thats a conference where Michigan can play some clsoe tight games and actually win them for a change.

Michigan in the MAC. Has a nice rythm to it!

As for RR and "his players," hello, Carr got great recruiting classes through out the years. this was especially evident in 2004. Going into that season, we lost a 3 year starting QB in John navarre and a Hesimen finalist in tailback in Chris Perry. But 5 star prospect Chad Henne and record breaking TB Mike Hart stepped in for Navarre and perry, and Michigan won the Big ten and made it to the rose Bowl in 2004. Why shuld 2008 be any different? cause its a new system? Please....look how well Michigan ran the spread offense in the Capital One Bowl! Players with as much raw talent as the players on michigan can adapt to ANY type of offnse easily, but that hasn't been the case at Michigan, and thats because RR is an overrated, shitty *** coach who's ******* up the number one rated program of all time. we wemt through nine months of ****, and this is a result? a 2-4 start where our offense is (literally) ranked 110th in the nation? Even for an optimst like me, thats unnacceptable and warrants a pinkslip. RR has plenty of talent (and experience) to work with on offense

  • I live in Ann Arbor, MI so you know who I root for. I totally agree with Da_lione. We have lost a lot of seniors plus the coach so we're basically starting fresh and just need some time to get used to all the changes. We'll be back- that's a promise!

  • Oy!

    Oy Vey!

You are really going to get some people mad at you for this question.

But, for what it is worth, I will go out on a limb and agree with you. I think they are the Pigs of College Football.

    Oy,

  • I just do not like their fans. It seems like if you disagree with anything they say, they want to fight.

And the arrogance of the words in their fight song... You know... now that I think about it, because of the past few years, maybe the words should begin with...
    "HAIL TO THE LOSERS!!!"

  • You are way off reaching for conspiracy theories. no one wants mich to ose more than me a big wvu fan enjoying rich frauds struggles is fun! but the refs are not in on helping mich look better

that penn st example sounds more like a situation of 1 bad offical who the big ten should of done a better background check on. he probably had money on the game he wasnt out to help mich as much as he was to help himself. the fact it was at mich was only a detail
